Diaspor-ous , 2022 - ongoing

This project has taken form through self-reflexive questioning, reflecting on my identity as a migrant settled on unceded land while carrying family histories of relentless generational displacement. It’s the contradictions of place and power, oppression and privilege present within this history, that led to my research question which asks - How can an installation based practice reveal migrant gestures of home building on sovereign Land? Exploring ideas of dwelling, displacement, place-making and how we claim a stake on land, and how histories are carried from place to place within a field of unresolved futures.

Diaspor-ous - a combination of Diaspora and porous - evolved out of the idea of home as a second skin, where the boundary between self and home is permeable.
