I acknowledge the traditional custodians of the unceded Land on which I live and work, the Bidjigal and Gadigal peoples. I acknowledge the privilege to be on this Land and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

About

Maya Hendler is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in installation, building on an artistic practice and training in sculpture, performance and installation that has been motivated by social and environmental concerns, and ideas around identity.

Maya’s background in dance has informed her exploration of movement in response to notions of art and identity. Within her practice she is motivated by concerns of landscape, social and environmental issues, identity and belonging - in particular, questioning how identity is informed, inherited, nurtured and distorted.

Maya is completing the Honours program of the Bachelor of Fine Arts at UNSW School of Art and Design and is currently producing work that explores the medium of installation as a vehicle of reflection in interrogating migrancy and sovereignty in colonised spaces.
